Interested to learn more about your course Future of Being Human !

You might be interested in this conference ...................

I have had the great privilege to be a participant/volunteer in the Pop!Tech conferences held in Camden Maine since 1997. One of my favorite was the 2000 Being Human
in a Digital Age with Bill Joy whose talk about the his April 199 article in WIRED about the future of humans was the highlight of the conference

My white light transmission hologram on Family ( a series of ancient symbols on the vicissitudes of family life) was displayed at that conference ( see series of three photos posted to my page )

This year the conference will be on the Human Impact October 17 to 20 2007

http://www.poptech.org/overview2007

Pop!Tech 2007 will explore some of the many ways human beings impact - and are impacted by - the world and each other.

There are podcasts from the 2004, 2005 and 2006 conferences posted

Last year the 2006 conference was video streamed through Yahoo and had a presence in Second Life.

I will post more about what will be available if
there is an interest.

Hi Arlene,

The SMP project (our nickname for the SMART site related project, which is officially, the Charitable Leadership Foundation grant to support “Adult Learner Literacy in Mathematics and Science”) has been both challenging and rewarding. We spent the first two years in piloting, testing, and experimenting to see what works and what doesn't (as we developed a number of courses).

We are now at the really exciting stage of entering year three, and about to take deeper approaches to the design of visual, immersive, and interactive components. We have some very engaging activities planned - including SL immersion for a course I'm co-authoring called: The Future of Being Human. It'll be fun!

I hope to see you in the Visual Pedagogy workshop. We'll have an applied collaborative activity for everyone as well as theory, case studies, examples and discussion. My colleague Eric Feinblatt will be joining us from Buenas Aires, where he is currently doing a field project.

Take Care, --Ragi

Hi Ragi

I looked over your work for Empire State and the SMART work for online courses for science, math and technology. Interested to see courses developed for participants w/o strong science backgrounds

For the Jason Academy ( part of Jason Project/NG)
I teach online cohorts of participants from Cambridge College which sounds similar to Empire State. I work with mostly adult learners, many who do not have a strong science background. They also have family and careers and are joggling much in their lives.

Very interested in collaboration and visual immersion. I am thinking about taking the
SLOAN workshop this month

So may see you there too : )

Hi Arlene,

Thank you for the kind comments! It looks like we have some intersecting interests, which is always nice :-)

My next related activity is a Sloan-C workshop titled Visual Pedagogy, Collaborative Learning, and Meaning-Making in Online Environments (it will have a SL component). http://sloan-c.org/workshop/visual_sep07.asp

The website showcasing some of our activities on the SMART project is: http://www.esc.edu/smart/default.html

Ragi,
Your NMC creativity symposium project is really cool too. The sound made it so much more immersive. Overall I think it is a great beginning to what you envision. I look forward to seeing it continue to develop.

Wow, the fire-services project sounds interesting. Years ago I worked on a certification exam project with the local FD and was fascinated by their RL training. Imagine a SL burn building!
